Pulling on the leash, now what?
Pulling on the leash, now what?
The most important rule is: do not pull on the leash yourself.
It can be very annoying when the dog pulls on the leash. You can't change that in one walk, but there are a few things you can do to limit it.
The more tension you put on the line yourself, the more tension you create for the dog. That only makes the problem worse. Instead, do the reverse.
Does the dog pull on the leash? Then stop and wait until the line is slack. And then walk on again. That way you bring peace back to the walk, and you reward the dog for a slack leash.
After a while sniffing, is it time to continue walking? Then don't pull the dog along, but just call it along in a cheerful tone. Does the dog immediately pay attention to you? That deserves a reward right? A treat or a very enthusiastic 'goooood'
